VCL to Provide Infrastructure for NC Bio-Preparedness

NC State's Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) will provide the "Cloud Computing" infrastructure for a new $5 million federally-funded project to develop a system to quickly detect and analyze biological threats to public health and safety.
Announced by Rep. David Price, D-NC, the North Carolina Bio-Preparedness Collaborative project will be led by UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and SAS Institute and will include participation by the N.C. Division of Public Health and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham.
Marc Hoit, Ph.D., vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer, NC State University and Charles B. Cairns, M.D., professor and chair, UNC-Chapel Hill department of emergency medicine, are the project's co-principal investigators.
