Global TransPark to Host Display of Autonomous Vehicle

The North Carolina Global TransPark Authority will host a display of the autonomous vehicle designed by Insight Racing and the College of Engineering at NC State University.

This event will be held on Friday, May 25 at 2:30 p.m. at the TransPark Center located at at 3800 Highway 58 North near Kinston.

The car’s developers hope that the vehicle will be chosen to compete in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Grand Challenge on November 3, 2007.

Among those scheduled to speak will be Dr. Robert Fornaro, Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Senior Design Center (SDC), who will  speak to the collaborative efforts of SDC student project teams involved in this initiative.

DARPA created the Grand Challenge events to advance unmanned vehicle driving technology more rapidly, answering a Congressional mandate to convert one-third of military vehicles to driverless, computer-driven mode by 2015.
