Student Team Finishes 4th in Programming Contest

Two teams of NC State computer science students, coached by Dr. David Sturgill, competed in the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Regional Programming Contest of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). The contest presented teams with eight programming problems, challenging the three-student teams to solve as many as they could in five hours. One of the teams from NC State, “Punctuation Blender,” (Duncan Page, Yosuke Mizutani and Thomas Barnette) placed 4th in the contest solving seven of the eight problems. They earned a spot at the North American Championship to be held in February 2020 in Atlanta. If they do well at this next contest, they could advance to the ICPC World Finals next summer in Moscow. more

Congratulations CSC Fall 2019 Graduates!

More than 200 Computer Science graduates were honored during the Fall 2019 Diploma Ceremony on December 20 in the James T. Valvano Arena inside NC State’s Reynolds Coliseum. Hundreds of friends and family members gathered to celebrate the graduates. This fall’s graduating class of over 200 students included 22 Ph.D., 129 M.S., and 71 B.S. degree recipients. The fall diploma ceremony featured guest speaker, Joe Bastante, CTO of BCBS of NC, as well as the first ever undergraduate student speakers to address a Computer Science Diploma Ceremony in 52 years! more

Black Alumni Society Celebrates 40 Years with Gala

NC State’s Black Alumni Society commemorated 40 years since its founding with an anniversary gala on Friday, Nov. 8. CSC alum (’73) Elwood Becton and his wife Diane, who founded the society, spoke about its history. Forty notable alumni (including several CSC alumni), many of whom give back to the university as volunteers and donors, received special recognition for leadership, commitment and service to the society, NC State and beyond. more

NC State Among Nation’s Top Universities for Entrepreneurship in 2020

NC State has been ranked by The Princeton Review as a Top Undergraduate and Graduate School for Entrepreneurship Studies for 2020. NC State is ranked #10 on the list of undergraduate schools, up from #11 in 2018, and its graduate school – for the first time – made its debut on the list at #21. more

FI Speakers Series Welcomes Chris Hazard

Our special guest speaker will be Dr. Chris Hazard, co-founder & CTO of Diveplane. Hazard, an award winning expert in the fields of game design, AI, and human-computer interaction, will speak on the topic “What Can We Learn About Innovation From the Theories That Drive Artificial Intelligence?” The event is free and open to the public. Departmental Gifts & Research

LexisNexis has donated $25,000 to the department in support of the ePartners Program and the Senior Design Center.

BCBS of NC has donated $12,500 to the department in support of the ePartners Program and the Senior Design Center.

Aluma, Marica McLawhorn has donated $12,000 to the department as an initial lead gift to help establish a new endowment to honor retired professor and former department head, Dr. Alan Tharp.

The RTP Chapter of SIM has donated $1,800 to the department in support of the Society for Information Management (SIM) Ed Galloway Scholarship Endowment.

Alum, Jay Strickland Jr., has donated $5,000 to the department in support of the Carol Miller Student Leadership Endowment.

Alum, Dr. Andy Smith, has donated $2,000 to the department in support of the Dr. Robert E. Funderlic Scholarship Endowment.

Alum, Jesse Fearrington, has donated $1,000 to the department in support of the Jesse Fearrington Scholarship Endowment.

CSC Wolf Bytes

Dr. George Rouskas was recently recognized with the 2019 Outstanding Service Award from the Optical Networking Technical Committee (ONTC) of the IEEE Communications Society. He has been a member of ONTC for over 20 years, and has served as officer from 2012-17: 2012-13 as Secretary, 2014-15 as Vice Chair, and 2016-17 as Chair.

Congratulations to CSC alum and former CSC Student Ambassador, Jacob Stone, who was recently recognized by Red Storm Entertainment as their 2019 Rookie of the Year!

If you are a CSC student or recent graduate (within 12 months post-graduation) and would like to receive email notifications when new jobs are posted on ePack matching your profile, you can set up your own customized job search agent to receive just the postings you desire (intern vs. full time, etc). For a short video tutorial on how to create your own personalized job agent, click here.

The Alumni Association has partnered with the University Career Development Center to make ePACK available to NC State alumni. If you are a current Alumni Association member, update your online profile by visiting the Wolfpack Connect (alumni directory) and click on the ‘Update My Info’ tab on the upper right side of the page. Select the ‘Career Connections’ tab and then choose ‘yes’ beside the question, ‘Do you want access to ePACK?’

To access ePACK you must be a member of the Alumni Association and you must be an alumnus/alumnae of NC State. If you are not a member of the Alumni Association, you can join online. Once you have received an email confirming your membership, you will be able to register for access to ePACK.
