Woodson Named NC State's 14th Chancellor
Dr. William Randolph "Randy" Woodson, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at Purdue University, has been named chancellor of North Carolina State University. He will assume his duties no later than May 1, 2010. more

NC State Alumnus Uses Social Media to Track Haiti Quake Survivors
Michael Maximilien (aka Max) (M.S., 2002; Ph.D, 2005) has developed the Haiti Quake People Finder (http://haiti-survivors.org), an application for the Facebook social networking site. The constantly evolving application allows users to socially construct, track, and share information about friends and family who were in Haiti when the earthquake hit. more
Department Welcomes Five New SAB Members
Dr. Mladen Vouk, head of the NC State Department of Computer Science, is pleased to announce the addition of five new members to the department’s Strategic Advisory Board (SAB). more
Fidelity Investments "Leadership in Technology" Series Presents Sean Belka
The department welcomes Sean Belka, Sr. VP w/ Fidelity Investments, on February 23rd as the next spring speaker in the Fidelity Investments "Leadership in Technology" Executive Speakers Series. His talk topic will be “Customer Focused Innovation: Leveraging Emerging Technologies to Create Customer Value”. The event is free and open to the public. more. more
Poulos Wins BrainTrack Scholarship
Alex Poulos, a junior majoring in Computer Science at NC State University, recently won the Fall 2009 BrainTrack Computer Science Degree Scholarship. In his essay, which earned Poulos the $1,000 first prize, he provides his peers several valuable nuggets of wisdom. "Nurture your curiosity! Well trained curiosity could prepare you for your next job, without you even knowing it.". more
Howling for Haiti
Bolstered by a collective mindset of global service and humanitarian aid, NC State students have rallied the campus community around efforts to assist residents of earthquake-ravaged Haiti, helping to provide much-needed resources to a country where water and food are scarce, and rescue efforts continue at a frantic pace. more
Special Delivery
NC State has announced that it will deploy the free Google Apps Education Edition as its official university e-mail service for students. In addition to receiving 35 times more storage space for e-mail, students will have access to Google’s suite of popular collaboration tools, including a word processor, chat program, calendar and Web site builder. more
Departmental Gifts & Research
I-Cubed has donated $2,500 to support student scholarships with the department.
Saffron Technology has donated $1,000 in support of the department’s ePartners Program.
Mrs. Ling Tai has donated $2,500 to the KC Tai Memorial Endowment fund.
Dr. Annie Antón has donated $500 in support of the ThePrivacyPlace.org.
Kevin Belote has made a $500 donation to support the continued growth of the Carol Miller Student Leadership Endowment to honor long-time lecturer Carol Miller who retired at the end of the 2008-09 academic year. Current pledges to the endowment total almost $38,000 and actual gifts collected approach $19,000. more
Drs. Rudra Dutta and George Rouskas have been awarded $479,259 by the Global Environment for Network Innovations (National Science Foundation) to support their research proposal titled, “Integrated Measurement Framework and Tools for Cross Layer Experimentation.” more

Dr. George Rouskas, professor of computer science at NC State University, has been named an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer for 2010 and 2011. more
Dr. David McAllister, Professor Emeritus, remains active even in retirement, presenting a paper on Methods For Computing Color Anaglyphs at the Electronic Imaging Conference ’10 in San Jose, CA in January. The paper will appear in the proceedings of Stereo Applications and Displays XXI.
The department officially welcomes new additions: Wayne Clark as Associate Director of Research for the NEXT Institute, ToniAnn Marini, Undergraduate Lab Coordinator & Lecturer, and Andrew Sleeth, Graduate Admissions Specialist.
