Computer Science Alumnus Drew Banks is Giving Back in a Big Way

Drew BanksDrew Banks wants to build a culture of philanthropy. Banks, who graduated from NC State in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, donates each year to the College of Engineering. Education is a priority for him and his husband, Nick Rubashkin, and both have put a lot of thought into how to implement their giving. Their most recent gift to NC State is designated for the Women and Minority Engineering Programs, The Engineering Place and scholarship support for students in the College of Engineering. AI Powers Interdisciplinary Innovation

Researchers Develop General Framework for Designing Quantum Sensors

Quantum Sesor GraphicResearchers from NC State and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have designed a protocol for harnessing the power of quantum sensors. The protocol could give sensor designers the ability to fine-tune quantum systems to sense signals of interest, creating sensors that are vastly more sensitive than traditional sensors. Yuan Liu, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering and computer science at NC State and corresponding author of the research. Liu was formerly a postdoctoral researcher at MIT. Chancellor Woodson Announces Plans to Retire

Chancellor Randy WoodsonChancellor Randy Woodson, a transformative leader who guided NC State University to new heights in student achievement, research output, facility expansion and fundraising, announced today that he will retire on June 30, 2025. Woodson’s 14-year tenure – the third longest for an NC State chief executive in the university’s history – has been marked by vast improvements to NC State’s academic measures, research expenditures, entrepreneurial spirit, financial and facility growth, and overall reputation. Labcorp has provided $45,000 to the department in support of the ePartners Program.

Pearson has provided $2,500 to the department in support of the ePartners Program.

Eduardo and Tracy Brea have donated $1,000 to the department to support the Michael "Gray" Dougherty Memorial Scholarship in Computer Science fund.

Alum, Suzanne Gordon and her husband, Ralph, have donated $5,000 to the department to support the Ken Tate Scholarship for Student Success in Computer Science fund.

The Driving Force Behind Data-Informed Decisions - Wolfpack 2030: Powering the Extraordinary sets forth a vision for NC State through seven strategic goals to achieve the university’s land-grant mission. The plan’s fifth goal revolves around improving university effectiveness through transformative technologies, cutting-edge processes and actionable data.
