Student Becomes Teacher

NC State junior Ryan Catalfu finds a creative way to support families struggling to homeschool during the pandemic. Catalfu’s site — Elementary Education at Home — offers resources on everything from stress management to teaching techniques, along with a slew of subject-matter sample activities and educational technology resources. “Daniels Hall” Name Removed

On the morning of June 22, the NC State University Board of Trustees approved removing the name “Daniels Hall” from the campus building that was named for Josephus Daniels in 1938. Chancellor Randy Woodson said “A building named in Daniels’ honor is in complete opposition to the values of NC State.” The building was originally named after Daniels because of his support for NC State’s engineering program and particularly electrical engineering, which was housed in Daniels Hall for many years. However, Josephus Daniels had strong ties to white supremacy and played a leading role in the 1898 Wilmington coup, also known as the Wilmington massacre. Undergrad CSC advising offices are located in the building, and several introductory CSC undergraduate courses are taught there. more

Big Data for Better Sweetpotatoes

When it comes to growing sweetpotatoes, North Carolina is a superstar – growing more than the next three states combined! Drs. Kemafor Ogan and Alessandra Scafuro are part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers at NC State that is setting out on an ambitious three-year project that will use artificial intelligence to make sweetpotatoes even more profitable. more

Endowment Honors Alumnus Who Valued Education and the Power of Scholarships

Alumnus Frank Madren’s love of electrical engineering and computer science was surpassed only by his love for his wife of 55 years, Jo Ann Madren. Three years after Frank passed away in 2015, Jo Ann honored his memory by endowing a merit-based scholarship at NC State in his name. The Frank Simpson Madren Scholarship Endowment is for undergraduate students in the College of Engineering with preference given to those with demonstrated financial need. more

From the completion of Fitts-Woolard Hall to the addition of real bells in the Memorial Belltower, many capital improvement projects have been making progress over the last few months, and students, employees and alumni will see some big changes when they return to campus. more

Goodnight Scholars Program Announces Class of 2024 and Transfer Class of 2023

The Goodnight Scholars Program at NC State revealed the 70 students from 34 North Carolina counties selected as its next traditional and transfer scholars. The program will welcome 50 members of the class of 2024 cohort, selected from 850 high school candidates, and 20 members of the transfer class of 2023 cohort, selected from nearly 300 community college candidates. The select group includes seven students (10% of the class) who intend to pursue a degree in computer science! more

Park Scholarships Announces Class of 2024

The Park Scholarships program at NC State has named 41 students to its class of 2024 – the 25th class of Park Scholars. The class includes two who plan to study Computer Science. These students were selected from a pool of more than 2,100 applicants from three countries, 43 states and 96 of North Carolina’s 100 counties on the basis of outstanding achievements and potential in scholarship, leadership, service and character. more

McFarland Recognized With WMEP Shining Star Award

Congratulations to Darius McFarland, a 2020 BS graduate of the NC State Computer Science Department, who was recently presented the College of Engineering’s Women and Minority Engineering Programs (WMEP) Shining Star Award. The award was presented during the virtual 2020 Annual Engineering Awards Reception on May 6. more

Personalized Job Search Agent in ePack

If you are a CSC student or recent graduate (within 12 months post-graduation) and would like to receive email notifications when new jobs are posted on ePack matching your profile, you can set up your own customized job search agent to receive just the postings you desire (intern vs. full time, etc). For a short video tutorial on how to create your own personalized job agent, click here.

The Alumni Association has partnered with the University Career Development Center to make ePACK available to NC State alumni. If you are a current Alumni Association member, update your online profile by visiting the Wolfpack Connect (alumni directory) and click on the ‘Update My Info’ tab on the upper right side of the page. Select the ‘Career Connections’ tab and then choose ‘yes’ beside the question, ‘Do you want access to ePACK?’

To access ePACK you must be a member of the Alumni Association and you must be an alumnus/alumnae of NC State. If you are not a member of the Alumni Association, you can join online. Once you have received an email confirming your membership, you will be able to register for access to ePACK.
