Locking Down Cloud Computing
Dr. Peng Ning is technical director of the Secure Open Systems Initiative at NC State, which hopes to build on his work with wireless sensors to help secure open source software and computer systems from malicious attacks. more
Cyber Warriors
The headlines are ominous - warnings that personal data may be stolen, national security may be compromised, corporate information may fall into the wrong hands. It’s the state of the world we live in today, and it’s for these reasons that NC State computer scientists and engineers are at the forefront of efforts to combat cyber-security threats. more

VCL to Provide Infrastructure for NC Bio-Preparedness
NC State's Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) will provide the "Cloud Computing" infrastructure for a new $5 million federally-funded project to develop a system to quickly detect and analyze biological threats to public health and safety. more

Alumnae Named To SIGCSE Board

Chopra Awarded Marie Curie Fellowship
Amit Chopra, a Masters (2003) and PhD (2008) graduate of the NC State Department of Computer Science, has been awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship (Project Trentino), as part of the European Union – 7th Programme of Research. more
Forensic Science: Integrating Evidence CSI-style
Dr. Michael Young (center), is among a group of NC State faculty applying their skills to forensic science so police, prosecutors, and evidence experts can more easily analyze crime scenes and arrest and convict the perpetratorss. more

On a good day, some 16,000 people come in to D. H. Hill library. Some are here to find a book, some to push their research a bit further, others to borrow a laptop or check their email quickly before class. Departmental Gifts & Research
The State of North Carolina Department of Justice has donated $2,500 in support of the Senior Design Center.
Jesse Fearrington Jr. (B.S. ‘ 73) has donated $1,000 in support of the Diversity in CSC Endowment.
Dr. Tao Xie has been awarded $263,000 by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support his research proposal titled “Infrastructure Support for Software Testing Research.” more
Dr. Xuxian Jiang has been awarded $200,000 by Purdue University/US Air Force – Office of Scientific Research to support his proposal titled “An Integrated Architecture for Automatic Indication, Avoidance and Profiling of Kernel Rootkit Attacks.”” more
