Study Reveals Extent of Privacy Vulnerabilities with Amazon’s Alexa

Collaborative research effort including Drs. Anupam Das and Will Enck from NC State finds issues range from misleading privacy policies to post-approval changes in code. The study outlines a range of privacy concerns related to the programs that users interact with when using Amazon’s voice-activated assistant, Alexa. Labcorp to Sponsor ‘Leadership in Technology’ Speakers Series

The Department of Computer Science is pleased to announce that Labcorp has made a multi-year commitment to serve as the sole named sponsor of the department’s popular ‘Leadership in Technology’ Speaker Series. The series, sidelined for the last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will relaunch for its 14th year as the Labcorp ‘Leadership in Technology’ Speaker Series, starting in the fall of 2021. The three-year sponsorship commitment runs through the end of the 2023-24 academic year and is expected to feature five to six high-profile technology leaders each year. Read More »

Singh Named 2020 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor

Congratulations to Dr. Munindar Singh, Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor of Computer Science at NC State, on receiving the NC State Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award in the area of Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering. Singh received this award in recognition of his excellence in mentorship based on nominations from graduate students and his truly exemplary track record of outstanding mentorship. A Carter-Finley Commencement

Select Departmental Gifts & Support

Dedicated NC State supporters showed the incredible strength of the Pack during the university’s third annual ‘Day of Giving’ - setting a national record with 14,272 gifts totaling $58,103,657. The department also had an exceptional day, receiving 82 gifts totaling $15,885! Read More »

Skyward Federal has donated $5,150 to the department in support of the ePartners Program.

Secmation has donated $2,500 to the department in support of the ePartners Program.

Outer Banks Blue Realty has donated $5,000 to the department in support of the Sr Design Center.

Alum, Dr. Andy Smith, has donated $2,000 to the department in support of the Dr. Robert E. Funderlic Scholarship Endowment.

Alumna, Marcia McLawhorn (B.S. ‘70) has made a substantial donation that allows for the official launch of the Dr. Alan L. Tharp Undergraduate Innovation Endowment. The endowment honors former Department Head and Alumni Distinguished Professor, Dr. Alan L. Tharp, and will provide unrestricted funding to support undergrad research and other special needs relative to nurturing innovation. Some possible uses may be to provide travel funds for a student to present a refereed paper at a conference, to purchase special materials as part of a project that he or she might not be able to undertake otherwise, or to file a provisional patent.

CSC Wolf Bytes

Secmation, an ePartner and leading small business in the fields of Cybersecurity R&D and Product Development, received a $1M Phase 2 SBIR award in January 2021. The SBIR was awarded by the Office of Naval Research for the purpose of developing SecMUAS, a modular cybersecure unmanned aerial systems (UAS) platform. Read More »

The department is pleased to announce the addition of Kamala Subramaniam to our Strategic Advisory Board. Kamala is an Engineering Leader in Google Cloud Networking and believes in creating an ecosystem between academia, industry, and the local community. She is a proud alumna of NC State University, where she received an MS in ECE and a Ph.D in Computer Networking. In her spare time, she is an accomplished theater actor, loves riding horses and running marathons. Read More »

Dr. Kemafor Ogan participated on a panel on March 2nd on PBS NC discussing the problems of bias in AI and Machine learning, which will be featured in a documentary by MIT Media Lab and other researchers. She was joined by faculty members from Duke and Wake Forest University.

Personalized Job Search Agent in ePack

If you are a CSC student or recent graduate (within 12 months post-graduation) and would like to receive email notifications when new jobs are posted on ePack matching your profile, you can set up your own customized job search agent to receive just the postings you desire (intern vs. full time, etc). For a short video tutorial on how to create your own personalized job agent, click here.

The Alumni Association has partnered with the University Career Development Center to make ePACK available to NC State alumni. If you are a current Alumni Association member, update your online profile by visiting the Wolfpack Connect (alumni directory) and click on the ‘Update My Info’ tab on the upper right side of the page. Select the ‘Career Connections’ tab and then choose ‘yes’ beside the question, ‘Do you want access to ePACK?’

To access ePACK you must be a member of the Alumni Association and you must be an alumnus/alumnae of NC State. If you are not a member of the Alumni Association, you can join online. Once you have received an email confirming your membership, you will be able to register for access to ePACK.
