CSC’s Chris Gurley Wins IT Team Service Award

Chris Gurley, IT Linux administrator in the NC State Computer Science Department, is part of the Campus Linux Team (CLS) that recently won the IT Extraordinary Team Service Impact Award. Gurley, who is a 2015 graduate of the NC State Computer Science Department, has been employed by the department since his graduation. more

Making (Fun) Multi-Player Gaming an Educational Experience

A new video game framework brings together two well-studied approaches to educational software in order to keep multiple players engrossed in the learning experience while fostering collaboration and problem solving. The framework is one of the first to integrate narrative-centered learning and collaborative learning techniques, laying the groundwork for future efforts in the field. In proof-of-concept testing, a team of researchers from North Carolina State University and Indiana University found a game made using the framework fostered both learning and effective collaboration in sixth graders. more

Senior Design Center's "Posters & Pies" Planned for December 6th

You are cordially invited to the NC State Department of Computer Science Senior Design Center "Posters & Pies" event on Friday, December 6th, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Each of the 20 student teams will give a brief presentation of their Senior Design project in the James B. Hunt Jr. Library Auditorium on NC State’s award-winning Centennial Campus. After the presentations, pizza and dessert pies will be served, and you can enjoy project demonstrations and poster displays in the Hunt Library IEI Duke Energy Hall. The event is sponsored by Builders Mutual, and Genesys, as well as the Computer Science ePartners Program and the NC State Engineering Foundation. more

NC State Among Nation’s Top Universities for Entrepreneurship in 2020

NC State has been ranked by The Princeton Review as a Top Undergraduate and Graduate School for Entrepreneurship Studies for 2020. NC State is ranked #10 on the list of undergraduate schools, up from #11 in 2018, and its graduate school – for the first time – made its debut on the list at #21. more

Fall Diploma Ceremony Set for December 20th in Reynolds Coliseum

Please join us as we recognize approximately 200 graduates during the NC State University Computer Science Department’s Fall 2019 Diploma Ceremony on Friday, December 20th at 1P in Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of NC State University, located at 2411 Dunn Avenue, Raleigh. Joe Bastante, Chief Technology Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina will provide the keynote address. Extraordinary Expectations Exceeded

NC State University has already surpassed the $1.6B goal of its Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign, more than two years ahead of schedule. The university publicly launched the fundraising Campaign, the largest and most ambitious in its history, in October 2016 with an end date of Dec. 31, 2021. During the period, the university saw gifts that added one named college, two new buildings, 83 new endowed faculty positions and 636 new endowed scholarships and fellowships. more

NC State Jumps To No. 17 On The Princeton Review’s Top 50 Green Colleges

NC State is ranked 17th on The Princeton Review’s 2019 “Top 50 Green Colleges” list, leaping 25 spots from No. 42 in 2018. The university has been named a Green College by The Princeton Review since 2012 but made the top 50 list for the first time last year by scoring 96 out of 99 possible points. This year, NC State is among 26 schools that earned the highest possible score - 99 out of 99! more

Team Wins Best Paper Award at AIIDE 2019

Congratulations to NC State Computer Science PhD graduate Justus Robertson and his co-authors Morteza Behrooz, a PhD student at University of California, Santa Cruz, and Arnav Jhala, associate professor of computer science at NC State, for winning the Best Student Paper Award at the 15th AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment (AIIDE 2019) held in Atlanta, GA October 8-12, 2019. more

BB&T has donated $25,000 to the department in support of the ePartners Program and the Senior Design Center.

Deutsche Bank has donated $10,000 to the department in support of the ePartners Program and the Senior Design Center.

Bandwidth has donated $5,000 to the department in support of the Senior Design Center.

Microsoft has donated $5,000 to the department in support of the Senior Design Center.

Credit Suisse has donated $7,500 to the department in support of the ePartners Program.

Secmation has donated $2,500 to the department in support of the ePartners Program.

Skyward Federal has donated $2,500 to the department in support of the ePartners Program.

Google has made an unrestricted grant of $65,000 to the department to support Dr. Will Enck’s proposal - 2019 Android Security and PrIvacy REsearch (ASPIRE).

Dr. Donald Bitzer and his wife, Maryann, have donated $8,000 to support the Dr. Robert E. Funderlic Scholarship Endowment, the Bitzer Creativity Award Endowment, and the Bitzer Undergraduate Research Endowment.

Dr. Timothy Menzies has been awarded $472,023 by the National Science Foundation to support his research proposal entitled “Mega Transfer: On the Value of Learning from 10,000+ Software Projects” more Dr. Menzies has also been awarded $592,129 by the National Science Foundation to support his research proposal entitled “Can Empirical SE be Adapted to Computational Science?”. more

Dr. George Rouskas has been awarded $439,148 by the National Science Foundation to support his research proposal entitled “On Parallelizing Optical Network Design Problems: Towards Network Optimization as a Service”. more

Drs. James Lester and Brad Mott have been awarded $985,585 by the National Science Foundation to support their research proposal entitled “Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Upper Elementary Science with Immersive Problem-Based Learning”. more

Dr. James Lester has been awarded $99,976 by the National Science Foundation to support his research proposal entitled “Collaborative Research: Building Capacity for K-12 Artificial Intelligence Education Research”. more

Personalized Job Search Agent in ePack

If you are a CSC student or recent graduate (within 12 months post-graduation) and would like to receive email notifications when new jobs are posted on ePack matching your profile, you can set up your own customized job search agent to receive just the postings you desire (intern vs. full time, etc). For a short video tutorial on how to create your own personalized job agent, click here.

The Alumni Association has partnered with the University Career Development Center to make ePACK available to NC State alumni. If you are a current Alumni Association member, update your online profile by visiting the Wolfpack Connect (alumni directory) and click on the ‘Update My Info’ tab on the upper right side of the page. Select the ‘Career Connections’ tab and then choose ‘yes’ beside the question, ‘Do you want access to ePACK?’

To access ePACK you must be a member of the Alumni Association and you must be an alumnus/alumnae of NC State. If you are not a member of the Alumni Association, you can join online. Once you have received an email confirming your membership, you will be able to register for access to ePACK.
