Congratulations to Kellie Jones and Natalie Kerby, students in the department of computer science at NC State University, who have been awarded Donald L. Bitzer Creativity Awards for 2010-2011.

Kellie, a sophomore, is a talented artist who sketches with colored pencils. One of her pieces, “Calm Reflection”, was selected out of 486 submissions to win the North Carolina Federal Junior Duck Stamp 2008-2009 competition.

Natalie is a junior, and has been selected for her photography. She recently had one of her photographs, “Fall’s Beginning”, selected to become part of the permanent collection in the Talley Student Center by ARTS NC STATE and the Campus Arts Council. Each year only 6-10 artworks are purchased for this purpose.

Established by Dr. Donald L. Bitzer, Distinguished University Research Professor, and his wife Mary Ann, the Bitzer Creativity Award was created to recognize and encourage creativity in undergraduate computer science students. He presents two creativity awards each year.

“Creativity is thinking outside the box,” says Dr. Bitzer.
