Best Paper Award Presented at ICIDS 2012

Congratulations to PhD students Matthew Fendt, Brent Harrison, Stephen Ware, and Rogelio Cardona-Rivera; and Dr. David Roberts, assistant professor of computer science in the NC State Department of Computer Science, for winning the Best Paper Award at the Fifth International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling (ICIDS 2012) held in San Sebastian, Spain on November 12-15, 2012.

In their winning paper, titled “Achieving the Illusion of Agency,” the team shows that players of interactive stories can be made to feel agency, or the ability to meaningfully interact, without actually giving them meaningful choices. The paper was selected best out of 48 submitted papers.  To read the award-winning paper, click here.

About ICIDS 2012:  From 2001 to 2007, two European conference series addressed the open challenges of Interactive Storytelling, serving as annual meeting points for scientists, researchers and developers from diverse disciplines.  In 2008, these conferences merged into ICIDS: the International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling, the premier international conference on interactive digital storytelling.
