CSC Faculty Promotions Announced

The Department of Computer Science at NC State University is pleased to announce the following faculty promotions, effective fall semester, 2016:
 
Dr. Min Chi is reappointed as 2nd term Assistant Professor.  She received her BE in Information Science and Technology from Xi’an Jiaotong University (China) in 1999, and her MS and PhD in the Intelligent System Program from the University of Pittsburgh, in 2006 and 2009, respectively.  She joined the department in August 2013 as a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence cluster hire in the Digital Transformation of Education.  Her research focuses on applying machine learning and data mining methods to improve human learning, and exploring new machine learning and data mining challenges posted by learning and social science.  For more information on Dr. Chi, click here.




 
Dr. William Enck is promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.  He received his BS, MS, and PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 2004, 2006, and 2011, respectively.  His research efforts centrally focus on systems security, addressing challenges in smartphones and mobile applications, operating systems, cloud services, telecommunications, and hardware architectures.  In particular, his work in mobile application security has lead to significant consumer awareness and changes within the space.  For more information on Dr. Enck, click here.





 
Dr. David Roberts is promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.  He received his BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from Colgate University in 2003, and his PhD in Computer Science from Georgia Tech in 2010.  His current research interests are generally in the area of machine learning and artificial intelligence and their applications to the design of interactive technological experiences such as computer games, interactive dramas, or training scenarios.  He incorporates concepts from social and behavioral psychology in to his research as well, and the designs of his algorithms are informed by concepts from psychology that can enable efficient and intuitive authorial and gameplay experiences.  For more information on Dr. Roberts, click here.




Dr. Blair Sullivan is promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.  She received her BS in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Georgia Tech in 2003, and her PhD in Mathematics from Princeton University in 2008 as a Department of Homeland Security Graduate Fellow.  She is a member of the Data-Driven Science (DDS) cluster of the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program (CFEP) and holds a Joint Faculty Appointment with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.  Her research combines expertise in structural graph theory, efficient algorithms, and generative models to enable scalable analysis of complex networks.  For more information on Dr. Sullivan, click here.
