DOE supports Shen’s Research on Deep Learning and Ontology-based Framework for HPC

Xipeng Shen, Associate Professor of Computer Science at NC State, was awarded $30,000 by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory via U.S. Department of Energy. The project explores deep learning in optimizing sparse matrix computations where most of the elements are zero. It also will use an ontology-based framework with a web interface to effectively collect and share knowledge for HPC.

The project, entitled “Exploring Deep Learning and Ontology-Based Framework,” will run from June 20, 2017 to December 31, 2017. 

Abstract - This work is to explore the potential of deep learning in optimizing sparse matrix computations, and to complete an ontology-based framework with a web interface for enabling effective knowledge accumulation and knowledge sharing for HPC.
