Dr. Jasmine Adams, Director of Undergraduate Advising, Retires

Dr. Barbara Jasmine Adams, Director of Undergraduate Advising in the NC State Computer Science Department, has announced her retirement effective September 1, 2024.  Adams joined the Department in 2004 as an advising assistant working with Ms. Joyce Hatch.  Following Hatch’s retirement, Adams became Director of Undergraduate Advising in December 2006, and quickly became legendary in the Department for being able to read students’ minds.  She always knew how to get things done and she always knew who to call when difficulties arose.  She had a great knack for listening, and for always giving top-notch advice.  She was the first line of defense, and every instructor (and the whole department) owes her a huge debt of gratitude.

Dr. Gregg Rothermel, Computer Science Department Head, said, "Hundreds, if not thousands, of computer science undergrads owe their academic success to Dr. Adams.  She has been an invaluable resource to the students and the department during her 20-year career at NC State, and she will be missed!"

Adams said, “While I leave with mixed emotions, I know with certainty that Ms. Marini and the CSC Undergraduate Advising Team will continue the tradition of excellence in academic advising that is a hallmark of this department.”

Adams has bachelor's degrees in psychology and education from Queens College of the City University of New York and she earned a doctorate in psychology from City University of New York in 1996.

Please join us in extending our sincere gratitude to Dr. Adams for her outstanding service and dedication to the NC State Computer Science Department.  We congratulate her on her retirement and wish her well in her future endeavors!
