Students Qualify for Microsoft ‘Imagine Cup’ Regionals
Congratulations to six NCSU students, who have qualified to be invited to Mircosoft’s ‘Imagine Cup’ regional competition. Students excelling in the first round of the competition include Derrick Marcey, Michael Davis, Ryan Snyder, Joshua Singley, Ryan Gerleve, and Amanda Macik.
The regionals will be held in New Orleans over the weekend of April 6-8.
Every year, Microsoft sponsors the North American portion of Imagine Cup. In previous years, the Software Design Invitational (SDI) has purely been a team-based competition. However, this year, Microsoft decided to change the way SDI was run in favor of increasing participation amongst college students.
Consequently, during the first round, competitors worked individually to complete various coding challenges that were submitted online. Qualifying competitors were invited to regional competition and will be provided airfare to one of the four locations. There, competitors will be competing for a spot in the final round where twenty-four competitors will be split amongst six different teams. These teams will compete in Redmond for the North American spot at Internationals in Korea.
At the end of the first round, NC State ranked thirteenth out of over 140 schools.
