Faculty Addition Announced
The NC State University Department of Computer Science is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Xiaohui (Helen) Gu to our faculty in January of 2008.
Gu will join the department as an assistant professor. She is currently a Research Staff Member at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Hawthorne, NY. She received a B.S. in computer science from Peking University, Beijing, China in 1999 and a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Illinois in 2004.
Her research interests include all areas of computer systems with a current focus on data stream processing, autonomic computing, peer-to-peer and service overlay networks.
Gu has filed 8 patents, and has published 29 research papers in international journals and major peer-reviewed conference proceedings such as IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE ICDCS, ACM Middleware, IEEE ICDE, IEEE INFOCOM. She received the Invention Achievement Award from IBM Research, ILLIAC fellowship, David J. Kuck Best Master Thesis Award, and Saburo Muroga Fellowship from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She serves on the program committees of many major International conferences and workshops such as ACM Middleware Doctoral Symposium, IEEE PerCom, IEEE RTSS, ACM MMM, and ACM Multimedia.
