Bio

Dr. Caio Batista de Melo is an Assistant Teaching Professor with the Department of Computer Science. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Universidade de Brasília, in Brazil, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine. At UC Irvine, he also served as the instructor of record for lower- and upper-division courses during the academic year. Dr. Batista’s research has focused on detecting and reasoning about emergent behaviors from both software and system perspectives. His most recent work has focused on autonomous vehicles and how emergent behavior provisions can be deployed in such a context. Additionally, Dr. Batista is highly interested in computer science education, with a particular interest in representation. At UC Irvine, he was one of the lead staff members of the CS1 course for four years, and he contributed to shaping the course so it was accessible to incoming students with all levels of experience.
