Bio

Dongkuan (DK) Xu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University, where he leads the Generative Intelligent Computing (GIC) Lab. His research studies learning in open-ended environments, with a focus on how AI systems decide what is worth exploring, what the available evidence supports, and what should change as new experience accumulates. His work connects efficient learning, prediction and decision under uncertainty, assurance at scale, and continual model evolution.

Xu studies these questions across foundational AI/ML, scientific discovery and autonomous experimentation, robotics and multi-robot systems, education, and networked systems. His research has received honors from NC State, AAAI, NVIDIA, and Microsoft, with selected papers receiving Oral or Highlight distinctions at ICLR, AAAI, IROS, CPAL, and CVPR.
