Xiaorui Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at NC State University, where he joined the faculty in August 2022. His research focuses on large-scale machine learning, trustworthy artificial intelligence, generative AI, and deep learning on graphs.

Dr. Liu earned his Ph.D. in computer science from Michigan State University in 2022 and holds both Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree from South China University of Technology. His research has been published in leading conferences, including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, KDD, AISTATS, and SIGIR. He has organized and presented tutorials at top conferences, including DSAA, CIKM, KDD, IJCAI, ICAPS, SDM, and WWW. He regularly serves as an organizer, senior program committee member, and reviewer for major venues such as ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, KDD, AAAI, IJCAI, MLSys, and TMLR.

Dr. Liu’s research aims to develop scalable and trustworthy machine learning systems with broad applications across data science, artificial intelligence, and intelligent computing. His contributions to research, teaching, and service have been recognized with multiple honors, including the Goodnight Early Career Innovators Award (2025), NSF CAREER Award (2025), AAAI New Faculty Highlights (2025), Amazon Research Award (2024), Amazon Research Award (2023), ACM SIGKDD Outstanding Dissertation Award (Runner-Up, 2023), NCSU Data Science Academy Award (2023), and NCSU Faculty Research and Professional Development Award (2023).
