Bio

Dr. Aimee Allard is a member of the Senior Design Center faculty in the Department of Computer Science at NC State. As the Communications Coordinator, she works with students on writing- and communications-based milestones: task planning, documentation, reports, editing strategies, presentations, and more. She is passionate about Senior Design because not only do students gain real-world experience developing proofs-of-concept and prototypes for sponsors in the tech, education, and non-profit sectors, but the course itself is an innovative model of multidisciplinary pedagogy, with instructors from CS and Communications backgrounds working together to teach and mentor soon-to-be NC State graduates.

Aimee earned her Bachelor’s in Biology and English and her MA in English from Florida Gulf Coast University. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where her dissertation focused on institutionalized writers deemed “madwomen.” With a background in pedagogical methods as well as literature, she has taught courses in technical writing, 19th and 20th century American literature, women’s and gender studies, and composition and rhetoric. She also has extensive experience in the academic publishing industry, having served as the Journals Department Project Editor at the University of Nebraska Press prior to joining the Department of Computer Science.
