Bio

Thomas L. Honeycutt is an Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Computer Science at NC State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from NC State in 1969 and joined the department in 1970. Over more than four decades, he served in numerous leadership roles, including the department’s first Undergraduate Coordinator (1974–1975), first Associate Department Head (1975–1979 and again from 1986–1991), and Chair of the Faculty Senate (1987–1988). He also oversaw the department’s transition from the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences to the College of Engineering in 1988–1989.

Honeycutt’s academic interests included information and knowledge management, software engineering and programming languages. He was instrumental in establishing the Computer Programming Certificate Program in 1979 and served on graduate committees across every college and school at NC State.

In recognition of his lasting impact, the Dr. Thomas L. Honeycutt Scholarship Endowment was established to support need-based undergraduate scholarships, with preference for first-generation college students and students from military families.
