The GTI will be the operational lead on this program and will arrange for housing and transportation assistance, pre-departure and on-arrival orientations, academic instruction, meals, access to campus activities, inquiries and problem resolution, and all logistics for the program. GTI program staff will accompany the program participants in all stages of the program from arrival to departure.
North Carolina State University is well-known for its Information Technology programs through its College of Engineering, which was ranked in 2019 by US News & World Report as #24 in Best Engineering Schools, and the online engineering and information technology programs offered by the College of Engineering are among the top such programs in the country. The Department of Computer Science is especially known for Computer Science Theory, Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Networks, Security, Software Engineering, and Computer-Based Education with a yearly funding level close to $50,000,000. The department has a number of teaching and research laboratories, centers and other facilities that support its educational and teaching mission. Furthermore, the department has partnered with a variety of corporations, universities and external organizations to provide training solutions ranging from special research-oriented presentations to customized courseware delivery.
There is a large and active Middle Eastern community near the campus with many food stores, restaurants, and Muslim and Christian places of worship that cater to Egyptian and other Arab nationals. Key NC State faculty and staff involved in the program have experience working with Egyptian nationals, understand Egyptian cultural nuances and can act as a bridge between Egyptian and American culture. The Designated Lead Faculty, Dr. Khaled Harfoush was born and raised in Egypt and the Cultural Coordinator, Mr. Timothy Rose, has lived in the Middle East and spent extensive time traveling and working in Egypt.
