George N. Rouskas is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at NC State University and serves as the department’s Director for Faculty Advancement. His research spans high-performance networking and network architectures, with contributions to internet design, optical networks, and network virtualization.
Rouskas leads the Optical Networks and Systems Laboratory at NC State, where his work focuses on the design, modeling, and optimization of next-generation network infrastructures. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and other federal agencies, as well as industry partners.
He has published extensively in top networking and systems venues and is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also the recipient of multiple honors for research and teaching excellence, including the Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award and the College of Engineering’s George H. Blessis Outstanding Undergraduate Advisor Award.
Rouskas earned his Ph.D. in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. At NC State, he is deeply involved in mentoring junior faculty and advancing initiatives related to faculty development, research impact, and academic leadership.
